Samara's Gift...

This is an ornament that Samara made for us. It was given to me today by my friend Bethany who was on the 1st October mission trip. It will be the first ornament we put on the tree this year.

Our prayers...

I have been praying fervently for the past month regarding some progress in our adoption paper work. Although I currently do not have any "visible" signs of progress I know that God hears my prayers & is working on our behalf. I was getting ready to post a devotion on prayer when a friend sent me the following devotion. As usual it is timely in my life. I hope that it may speak to your heart as well.

He Is Attentive to Your Prayers
Today's Scripture
“For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer…” (I Peter 3:12 AMP).
Today's Word from Joel and Victoria
Do you ever wonder if the Lord hears your prayers? There is Good News today—this verse promises that He is attentive to the prayers of the righteous! If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and have asked Him to cleanse you of your past sins, then you are righteous by the blood of Jesus. God longs to show Himself strong on your behalf. Your prayers open the door for Him to move in your life. You can be sure that He is attentive and listening for your prayers. Keep standing, keep believing, and keep praying knowing that God is on your side. He hears you. He’s working behind the scenes and orchestrating things in your favor. Thank Him today for listening. Thank Him for making you righteous. As you stand in faith, you will see God move in your life. Don’t shrink back—move forward in confidence knowing that the eyes of the Lord are upon you, and He is attentive to your prayers!
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for making me righteous. Thank You for making me clean and new. Thank You for hearing my prayers today. I cast my cares and burdens on You knowing that You are working in my life today. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

(I'm assuming this devotion came from Joel & Victoria Osteen although I am not for sure since my friend did not state where it came from)

Picture Day!

Yesterday was picture day at Phoebe's preschool. She even got her hair styled for the "event." Here are two pictures that I took of her at home before she went to school. I pray that she did not pose like this at school because I already paid money to buy a package :o)

Finely tuned...

"I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call
on My name and I will answer them; I will say, "They are My people," and they will say, "The Lord is our God." - Zechariah 13:9

A friend sent me this the other day & I think the timing was perfect for me.

My former business career was as an owner of an advertising agency. Over the years, I had the privilege to work on many different and prestigious accounts. One of those accounts was Steinway Pianos, the maker of the world's finest pianos. Each piano has always been made from scratch; it takes over a year to make one Steinway. The most impressive scene as I toured the manufacturing plant was the place where the soundboard is stretched to its maximum tolerance and allowed to sit for an extended
period until it remains in the curved design. This was done in an off-to-the-corner part of the plant. If the wood were alive, it would be crying out for mercy.

After an extended time of stretching, the wood will never spring back to
its original state. It is permanently changed. The piano is becoming a fine-tuned instrument. After this process takes place, the next step requires another point of stress. It takes 11 tons of pressure on a piano to tune it. Each step in the process moves the piano closer to a finished product that will ultimately be played by the world's finest musicians. These musicians desire a particular sound that only a piano like this can make.

God looks at each of us as a fine-tuned instrument. However, we begin as rough wood that He desires to transform into gold. Tuning us requires certain experiences that will stretch our faith, our frame, and our very life. Sainthood springs out of suffering. If we can stand the strain of this intense process, we will come forth as gold-as a sweet-smelling offering to our Maker. When we are in the midst of these times, it feels like fire. It is painful to be stretched beyond our perceived
limits, but the Lord knows this is necessary for us to become an instrument that can play a beautiful song that others will seek after. Let the master Craftsman have His way in your life today. You will be pleased with the instrument He fashions.

Do not doubt...Do not waiver!

"Do not doubt...do not waiver!" These words have been running through my brain almost constantly since Thursday. I know God is telling me this because of the battle that has been ensuing regarding our adoption papers. Today is a "critical" day in the process although at this point I have no idea in what ways. I've been praying fervently this morning & will continue to do so through out the day. Please join me in prayer as we "move mountains" through Jesus. Thank you!

"I assure you, even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' & it would move. Nothing would be impossible." Matthew 17:20b-c

Back to back bad...

I just recieved two back to back phone calls relating "bad" news. Please pray for both situations. The first one was to inform me that my friend Mike's son committed suicide. Please pray for Mike & his family. Words can not even express the anguish one feels when they lose a loved one to suicide.

The second one was from a friend of mine who just got a call that her mother who lives in Bloomington is sick & has to have a pace maker put in tomorrow. She is not in the best of health to start with. She has battled skin cancer & some other illnesses. Please pray for her as well as travel safety for Katrina & her 2 year old. Please pray that Randy & I can be a comfort & help to both Mike & Katrina during this time. Thanks so much!

One down...one to go!

We were in need of two twin mattresses for the girls room & we were blessed with one today. Thank you Lord! I know He will provide us with the other one soon.

Psalm 147

Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to our God!
How delightful & how right!
The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem
& bringing the exiles back to Israel.
He heals the broken hearted,
binding up their wounds.
He counts the stars
& calls them all by name.
How great is our Lord! His power is absolute!
His understanding is beyond comprehension!
The Lord supports the humble,
but he brings the wicked down into the dust.
Sing out your thanks to the Lord;
sing praises to our God, accompanied by harps.
He covers the heavens with clouds,
provides rain for the earth,
& makes the green grass grow in mountain pastures.
He feeds the wild animals,
& the young ravens cry to him for food.
The strength of a horse does not impress him;
how puny in his sight is the strength of a man.
Rather, the Lord's delight is in those who honor him,
those who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Praise The Lord, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
For he has fortified the bars of your gates
& blessed your children within you.
He sends peace across your nation
& satisifes you with plenty of the finest wheat.
He sends his orders to the world-how swiftly his word flies!
He sends the snow like white wool;
he scatters frost upon the ground like ashes.
He hurls the hail like stones.
Who can stand against his freezing cold?
Then, at his command, it all melts.
He sends his winds, & the ice thaws.
He has revealed his words to Jacob,
his principles & laws to Israel.
He has not done this with any other nation;
they do not know his laws.
Praise the Lord!

Moving Mountains!

Jesus says in Matthew 21:21-22 "I assure you, if you have faith & do not doubt, you can do things like this & much more. You can even say to this mountain, 'May God lift you up & throw you into the sea,' & it will happen. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." He says a similiar comment in Mark 11:23 "I assure you that you can say to this mountain, 'May God lift you up & throw you into the sea' & your command will be obeyed. All that's required is that you really believe & do not doubt in your heart."

From the start of our adoption process I have believed that God is in control of these adoptions & that He does want our children home quickly. I still believe that & now it's time to move some mountains!!! It's time for the mountains in Haiti that are standing in the way of our children coming home be tossed into the sea! Please stand with me in prayer about the following specific things:
1. That Mr. Fagan in the DHS office in Haiti will sign the DHS approvals Thursday Oct. 4th for both us & our friends Cathy & Troy if he has not already done so.
2. That us, our friends Don & Teresa, & Cathy & Troy enter IBESR no later than Monday Oct. 8th.
3. That our friends Michelle & Jeremy, Kristina & Todd, Angela & Shawn, Tanya & Derek, & Fiona & her husband would come out of Parquet quickly & smoothly & that their children will be home with them before Christmas.
4. That all of the Three Angels adoptive parents that are in IBESR now would exit quickly & would quickly enter & exit Parquet.
5. That us, our friends Don & Teresa, & Cathy Troy exit IBESR quickly & smoothly & enter & exit Parquet quickly & smoothly & that our children would come as soon as possible...perferably before Christmas but no later than Febuary.
6. That our friends Amy & Sarah's DHS appointments go smoothly while they are in Haiti & that they will get their DHS approvals quickly & enter & exit IBESR quickly & smoothly.
7. That all of the birthparents involved in these adoptions will come to know Jesus as their Lord & Savior if they don't already. And that they will be filled with His peace & comfort during & after the adoptions.
8. That if it's the Lords will for our friends Kelly & Jarod to adopt soon that He will make it "crystal clear" to both of them & they will be filled with His peace.
9. Please pray for wisdom, guidance, strength, & encouragement for all the people involved with Three Angels Children's Relief. Their jobs are not easy and their love for the children is great.

Girls Day Out!

On a scale of 1-10...yesterday was a 9 for me. It would have been a 10 minus the being woke up at 3:30am & couldn't go back to sleep & one "little" melt down from Phoebe while we were out & about.

I left the house yesterday morning at 6:30am with my IN mother. There were alot of yard sales yesterday & we went to several. I had a great time & found some great bargains as well! We then came home & noticed our neighbor who has been gone for a month visiting her daugther was back home. We talked to her for a few minutes. She is such a precious lady.

I then went inside my house & showed Randy the goodies I had gotten at the sales. My body then informed me it was time to take a nap so I did. I then got up & ate lunch. Phoebe & I watched two "informative" episodes of "How do I look?" After that we were inspired to go "somewhere" & give Daddy some deserved peace & quiet time to do some things he needed to do around the house.

We left the house a little after 1pm & arrived home a little after 7pm. You're probably wondering what in the world we did. Well...we had a day that usually happens between older girls & mommies but for anyone who knows Phoebe...you know that she's not your "typical" 4 year old. She did have one major melt down while we were out just to "remind me" that she is really 4 but all in all we had a great day.
We started out at BabiesRus & looked at Caleb things. We then headed to Payless Shoe Store. Then to Claires where the melt down happened because she refused to listen to my instructions. She then quickly regrouped after being told that we would go home if she did not. She regrouped & we headed to Cold Stone Creamery for some amazing ice cream. We then went to Target where she announced she was still hungry. You got to be kidding me right? No...she wasn't. She then proceeded to eat a huge hot dog. We then spent a long time looking at & trying on clothes & shoes, looking at jewerly & make up. She walked out with a new outfit & shoes for $10.96 so we were both smiling :o)

We then came home & she was thoroughly happy & tired & went to bed quickly :o)

0-2

My record for pictures at the zoo is not getting any better. Last week I forgot my camera. Yesterday, Phoebe & I went to "our" zoo. I asked Phoebe if she wanted me to bring the camera & she said, "yes", so I brought it with us & actually remembered not to leave it in the van. So when the time came for a really cute picture to be taken, I whipped out my camera & went to turn it on...nothing...nada...zilch! I had just used it the day before & it had battery "juice." Ugh!!! Back to back trips to a zoo & no pictures!!! But...it was another beautiful day & we really enjoyed ourselves!

Hello...

my name is Cole. I'm Reece's little brother. I'm playing with Phoebe today, Samara, Shakria, & Caleb's sister, while my mommy & daddy go to their finger printing appointment. Aren't I cute? :o)

Happy Birthday Granny!

Today is my Grandma's 85th birthday! Praise God for her 85 years of spunkiness!!! I tried to call her Granny once in her 60's & she fussed at me saying, "I'm not old enough to be called Granny." So I tried again once in her 70's & she fussed at me again. Today I am calling her Granny because I think she has proudly earned the "title"...fussing or not. I love you Grandma!

KEYS...

What if someone gave you the keys to a brand new, shiny car with all the lastest gizmos & gadgets in it? What if someone gave you the keys to a just built, stylish house with multiple large bedrooms with spacious walk in closets & adjoining private bathrooms with granite counter tops & fancy showers, bath tubs, & toliets, & a kitchen & a dining room fit for a king? It would be pretty nice wouldn't it?

What if someone gave you the keys to heaven? And by God's power you could do anything you wanted that was of His purpose & plan? Sounds even better than the car & the house doesn't it? So with that being said...why do most Christians not take the keys of heaven that God has given us & use them for His purposes & glory?

"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, & whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, & whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. "Matthew 16:19

It's time for us to stop just reading this verse but grab it by the horns & apply it to our lives. Just think what our lives would be like if we did!

The "List"...

I had stated some time ago that I would post a "needs" list regarding the adoptions. I have hemmed & hawed around to the point where I can no longer avoid doing it due to some well meaning & loving friends who keep asking me about it. For those of you who know me really well you know that this is EXTREMELY difficult & uncomfortable for me to do but I am laying down my pride & delusional self sufficiency & doing it anyway...so here it is:

NEEDS LIST:
1. Money (At this time we need approximately $8,210 for the rest of the estimated adoption expenses to bring our children home.)
2. Two twin size mattresses. No box springs needed at this time unless you have them already & want to give them too.
The following items are on our baby registry list at Wal Mart which can be accessed in stores or on line. It's listed under Kathy & Randy.
3. Dorinda Sheet Set Twin Size, two sets
4. Dorinda Quilt, Twin Size, two
5. Bedtime Originals-Sleepytime Snoopy 3 piece crib bedding set
6. Munchkin Fold n' Go Diaper Changing Pad with Cover, White
7. George-Faux Crocodile Diaper Tote Bag, Brown
8. Kushies-Lightweight Waterproof Boy Bibs, one 3 pack
9. Regalo Portable Booster & Activity Chair, Royal
10. Cosco Convenience High Chair, Ashton
11. Cosco Scenera 5-Point Convertible Car Seat
Handy Man Services
12. Remove out of use gas furnace in the family room down stairs
13. Remove out of use "some type" of heating unit in Randy's garage
14. Remove out of use gas dryer from upstairs utility room & change it to electric outlet for electric dryer.
15. Help remove washer that goes with above dryer & move electric washer & dryer from downstairs to upstairs utility room.
16. Help Randy put needed insulation in the attic.
17. Build & install buffet table type extension on the wall opposite the sink in the kitchen to accomodate more food & seating space.

We want to thank you in advance for any & all help that you can provide. Thanks so much!!!

It's official...

I'm going to Haiti in December to see my beautiful children! I can't wait!!!

Great day but no proof!

My mother, Phoebe, & I headed to Louisville, KY this past Monday & went to the Zoo. It was a beautiful day...sunny but not to warm & not to cool, with a nice breeze. Randy & I had taken Phoebe to the Louisville Zoo once before shortly after moving to IN but she doesn't remember it. This time she had a blast but for some unknown reason unfathomable to me...I forgot my camera! So we had a great day but no pictures to prove it so you'll just have to take my word for it :o)

Unity Needed!!!

There has been some amazing things happening at Three Angels Orphanage lately. For one, all the children that are currently available for adoption now have forever families! The medical clinic that was built this summer is set to open soon. The school continues to grow. More people are interested in helping out in various ways. It's just amazing to see how God is working!

Now we should be prepared for battle. Why you ask? Because it's the "normal" consquence to God doing mighty things. Satan gets mad & he attacks. Is he attacking now? I think he is. What we need to do is to realize his "plan" & to fight his attack with the Word of God. Put on the full armor of God & stand firm.

"Use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth & the body armor of God's righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News, so that you will be fully prepared. In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. Put on salvation as your helmet, & take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray at all times & on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert & persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere."
Ephesians 6:13-18

"Let there be real harmony so there won't be divisions in the church. I plead with you to be of one mind, united in thought & purpose." 1 Corinthians 1:10b&c

Please pray for the boys...

at the orphanage. I was really frustrated this past Saturday morning due to some delays with the adoption paper work. I finally cried out to God & asked what was going on. The following is what I believe He revealed to me. Satan is going to attack all of us who are adopting from Haiti because he doesn't want things in Haiti to change. He likes it just the way it is...poor, many hopeless & lost people. People practicing vodoo & other things. Although Satan is not happy when anyone is adopted from Haiti, he is especially upset when boys are adopted. Why you ask? Because he knows that our plans for these children is to bring them home, love them, give them an education, & hopefully some day they will return to their native country & help the people there. He knows that the men are the ones that currently make the decisions in the country & when present...in the family as well. He doesn't want God loving, educated men in Haiti trying to change things for the better. He wants the people to continue to live in poverty & bondage to so many things. So if you are adopting a boy from Haiti or know someone that is...please pray for that boy, the adoptive parents, the birth parents, & the entire adoption process. Satan will do whatever he can to stop these adoptions. It's up to us to stand firm on God's word & His promises.

Four months...

Sweet, baby boy is 4 months old today! We love you & miss you Caleb!!!

Happy Birthday Moo!!!

Today my amazing mother turned 60. I am so glad that she is here to celebrate her day with me. We've always been close & I am so thankful that God blessed me with her. Happy Birthday Moo! (aka: Mom :o)

A LOT TO SAY!

I know by the number of posts I've made lately that you probably don't think I have a lot to say right now but I do. I have not had much time to post between having out of town guests two weekends ago & then not feeling well all last week & then my mother arriving this past Sat. for a week long visit. I have at least 3 different posts I could post right now but fatigue will make me wait a little longer to post them.

Contentment...

Below is an excerpt of a Dr. David Jeremiah devotion that I thought was really good & want to share with others.
Just As You Are

Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we
ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Psalm 100:3

Recommended Reading
Psalm 139:13-16

A proud grandmother was admiring the way her four-year-old granddaughter
had dressed herself--until she got to the feet. "Why, honey," the
grandmother said gently, "I think you've put your shoes on the wrong
feet." The little girl looked down at her feet and then up at her
grandmother. "But, Grandma, these are the only feet I've got!"

In her misunderstanding, the little girl made an important point, one
that modern, image-conscious people would do well to remember: The
features God has given us are the only ones we've got! It's easy today
to become dissatisfied with who we are and what we have been given: our
looks, our intelligence, our skills and talents, our personality, our
physical build. But the Bible says we are the handiwork of God--that He
shaped us in our mother's womb. A large part of becoming comfortable "in
our own skin" is recognizing that we are unique in God's sight. We are
one-of-a-kind people, created to accomplish for Him what only we can.

Consider taking stock of who you are and thanking God for His perfect
wisdom in creating you to be one-of-a-kind.

He who is not contented with what he has would not be contented with
what he would like to have.

Doing it Right!

I have received a lot of support feedback & comments to my previous Big Loser post. Thank you so much for your support & encouragement! Some of you have said that you have had similar struggles & want to lose weight the healthy way. Many people that have never had weight issues don't realize that many of us that have don't know how to eat healthy or lose weight the healthy way. They are surprised when someone tells them that & they want to know why. Most of the time the answer is that they have never been taught. I grew up in a home with a mom who didn't like to cook & for the first few years on her own after my parent's divorce, meals consisted of cereal, bologna, & the A&W Drive In. If you aren't taught to eat healthy as a kid, chances are you are going to have unhealthy eating habits as an adult. I was 12 when my mom informed me that I was overweight & needed to lose weight. She was right but she didn't tell me how to do it so I did it on my own & then one thing led to another & the next thing I know I was anorexic. Please don't get me wrong...I'm not blaming my anorexia on my mom but it would have been helpful to have had some sound nutritional & exercise advice from someone instead of trying to figure it out on my own. I also "recovered" on my own & was still leaning on my own knowledge which still did not include healthy eating habits. So I went from "recovery" to being overweight again. I was so grateful when I had a nutrition class in college & finally had some good nutritional information.

If you have never lost weight the "right way"...which is the healthy way...I really encourage you to enlist help of a dietician or join a nutritionally sound program like Weight Watchers. If you are limited in the funds department & can't do that right now, try looking up information on the internet. One book that I highly recommend is "The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person" by Judith S. Beck. I-SBN-13:978-0-8487-3171-1. She basically covers all the things that Weight Watchers teaches but presents it in a fresh, down to earth way.

Some things to consider when trying to losing weight:
***Decrease or eliminate fatty, fast food. You can still eat out but you need to study your options & pick the healthy ones. In a pinch, Subway & Wendy's is a safe bet. Subway has several low fat options & at Wendy's you can skip a burger & fries & have a baked potato & salad instead. If you're going to a "sit down" restaurant, skip the bread or chips that many restaurants serve before your meal comes. If you have difficulty resisting them, simply tell the waiter or waitress "No thank you" when they say your bread or chips will be right out. Stick to entrees listed as low fat or heart healthy. Some places such as AppleBees actually have a Weight Watchers section on the menu.
***Make sure to eat at least 3 servings of lean or lower fat protein, 3 dairy, & 4-5 servings of fruits & veggies a day. Many people think if they skip the meat, cheese, & other higher calorie foods that they will lose more weight when in reality that isn't true. Your body needs protein, especially if you're working out & even more so if you're working out with weights.
Good sources of protein & dairy include: 3-4 oz. of lean chicken, turkey, fish or seafood. When eating beef, choose the leanest cuts. Fat free or low fat milk, cheese, yogurt, pudding, & ice cream, are good dairy sources. Also eat eggs or egg beaters, legumes & "healthier" nuts such as almonds & sunflower seeds.
I know they say eat fruit instead of drinking juice. I would encourage that if you can but if you're like me & are not much of a fruit eater, drink the juice if it helps get your fruit servings in. An easy way to get fruit in is to top it on oatmeal, high fiber cereal, or yogurt.
***Eat things you like. If you like salads more than cooked veggies, then eat salads. If you like cooked veggies & not salads, then eat the cooked.
***Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. If you don't like water, add crystal light to go to your bottle or glass. Dehydration can bring your metabolism to a stand still.
***Listen to your body. If you feel better eating several small meals a day then do it. If you feel better eating three squares & no snacks then do that. If you need three meals & one or two small snacks in between then do that. Every "body" is different. What may work for one person may not work for you.
***Exercise at least 4 times a week for 30 minutes each time. If you are "out of shape" & don't feel like you can do a strenous work out...start with walking & then increase time, frequency, & hills. Don't forget to stretch before AND after exercising.
***Weigh yourself once a week. Doing it more just frustrates you & gets you focused on the scale rather than healthy lifestyle changes. Not weighing yourself at all can fool yourself into believing you are losing weight when you may not be losing any weight or maybe gaining. Take body measurements once a month as well. You may not always be losing pounds but maybe losing inches instead.
***If you lack in motivation & accountability...get a "buddy" to check in with & to work out with.
***Do not "treat" yourself with food. If you have lost weight or have done something else that you think deserves a reward...buy a new outfit, get a pedicure or give yourself permission to take a 3 hour nap.
***Always talk with your doctor if you have any questions about starting a weight loss &/or exercise program.
***Get creative & have fun!!! :o)

Big Loser...

If you are 115 pounds &/or wear a size 0, this post is not for you. I meant to post this yesterday but I got side tracked. I don't want to take away from Shakira's previous birthday post but I needed to post this before tonight. Some of you who have known me for a long time know that I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I was a skinny baby who became a "healthy" child who became an over weight pre teen who became an anorexic teen who became a recovering anorexic teen who became an overweight teen who lost the college freshman "33" who had a couple of healthy weight years as a young adult who then became an overweight adult who then became an obese adult.

In July of 2004 when Phoebe was 10 months old & I was a "voluptous" 206 pounds, I decided that it was time to start losing weight...and for the first time in my life I was determined to do it the "right" way...the healthy way. I joined Weight Watchers. During the first year I lost 26 pounds. I should have lost more but 4 months after I started I experienced some major life changes such as moving to a new state with no friends or family there & became a stay at home mom. I was proud of myself that I didn't gain any of the weight back even though I hadn't lost any more. Over the past two years I've had periods of some loss & some gain but overall I have lost 41 pounds so far. I still have some pounds to go before I get to my goal weight but I am happy to be where I am now as opposed to when I was 206 pounds.

The hardest thing for me is portion control & motivation. I will do well for awhile & then I decide it's time to take a break. The next thing I know the pounds start to creep (or I should say just run & jump) back on. I am not into reality shows & have never watched The Biggest Loser during it's actual viewing season. I stumbled across it at the beginning of this summer when they began playing the re runs on the Style Network which is one of my favorite channels. The first show really inspired me & I took off running down the street...unfortunately for me however, my back has decided that my running days are long behind me..."way" back there. But I have been walking consistently as well as doing a dvd work out with hand held weights. Exercise is usually not a problem for me because I enjoy it & it's a stress release for me. My problem continues to be with food itself. I have prayed about it & even fasted about it. I know God wants to deliver me from my food addiction & He is just waiting for me to turn it all over to Him as well as be willing to discipline myself regarding my food intake & the types of food I eat on a regular basis.

I am ready to do this. I want to have a balance with food & my weight. It's been long over due & now is the time! Besides I have 3 more children on the way & I need to have the energy to keep up with all of them as well as be healthy to be around to see them grow up. If you are like me & lack in the motivation department from time to time...make yourself comfy on the couch tonight at 7pm (without food in hand) & turn your TV on NBC to watch the 2 hour season premiere of The Biggest Loser. I know they lose more weight than most of us do in a weeks time because it is a "game" as well & they are exercising a lot more than they would at home but the general principle of healthy, balanced eating plus exercise equals a good equation. If you feel guilty for sitting on your tooshy for 2 hours feel free to do some exercises or fold laundry while you watch. You can lose weight & be the healthy person that God created you to be! God's blessings on your weight loss journey & a healthier you!

Happy Birthday Shakira!!!

I so wish you were here with us today to celebrate your 5th birthday! We love you & miss you very much! Happy Birthday sweet, beautiful girl!

"Wrestling at the Chase"

I'm sure many of you are too young to remember "Wrestling at the Chase." I started watching it when I was around 9 years old. It was an hour long show of wrestling that came on every Sunday morning. So after I went to church I would settle down on the couch in front of the television with a stack of pancakes, eggs or something else to eat & watch it with my Mom. Why we watched it...I have no idea! There were no men in the house...just us two. We really enjoyed it for several years until it became "too staged."

I have never been on a wrestling team but have "wrestled" many times in my life. Sometimes it was physical wrestling...especially my JR High years when I thought it was necessary to fight with everyone who looked at me wrong. There were a couple of times that may have been "valid & noble" fights but the others were just plain silly.
So why did I do it? I'm not really sure...hormones, supressed anger, looking out for "me."

I have "wrestled" since then but it's been spiritual & emotional wrestling. I've wrestled with God, myself, & others around me who were trying to help me. Why would I wrestle with God? That's a good question because we know who's going to lose that match...me! Why would I wrestle myself? I really have no idea. Why would I wrestle with others who are trying to help me? Lots of reasons but none of them "good" ones...pride, stubborness, fear, exhaustion, etc.

I have wasted a lot of time & energy over the years "wrestling." As a Christian I am suppose to "fight" but not with people...and not in my own strength. The Bible says, "Be strong with the Lord's mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies & tricks of the Devil. For we are not fighting against people made of flesh & bone, but against the evil rulers & authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, & against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6: 10-12

Don't forgot to put on God's armor today & stand strong in Him!!!

"Busted!"

I have really been feeling "spiritually detached" lately. So yesterday morning I got on my knees & had a heart to heart talk with God. I was surprised by what he "told" me. I have known it all along but I didn't want to admit it. I think we all have something about ourselves that we try to hide or ignore so we won't have to deal with it because we either think it's too ugly to reveal or we're just so comfortable with it we don't know how to act without it.

For those of you who know me really well & know about my childhood, you know that I didn't have an easy one. I am what one calls a "survivor." I have never used that as an excuse for my behavior, however, I can see how it has "bent" me into the very independent, self sufficient person that I think I am. So God was "talking" to me yesterday about my "self sufficiency". He knows that deep down I know that it's just illusion because I know that without Him I am nothing...and I have nothing. But for some reason I still keep living the illusion that I am self sufficient. He told me it's a pride issue. Yuck! I despise that word being associated with me! But I know He's right. Not that I want to be self sufficient so I can say, "Look at me...I am "Miss Independent" & I don't need anyone...but more because I don't like needing help or having to ask for it. It's not something I'm good at or comfortable with.

So as I was "chewing" on all of this yesterday I got a phone call from a friend. She must have had heard my conversation with God because she "called me on the carpet" about the same thing. I told her that I realize I need help in getting some things in preparing to bring our children home but I didn't want to ask anyone for help. So after I listened to her I agreed that I would post on my blog a list of things we could use to help us with that. She suggested that I actually register at places like you would for a baby shower. Although I am really uncomfortable with this idea I am going to do it. I will post the list on my blog after I compile it.
Whew!!! It was really hard to type this post...so glad it's finished!!!

Take a Look!

If you are a family member or far away friend that just looks at my blog & none of the others listed on my blog list...please take a moment to scroll down the list to "Kristina" & check out her post for Saturday August 25th. It's really good & shows how our Haitian community developed. Thanks!

Church Picnic...

Today was our annual church picnic. The last two years I have been in charge of it & this year will be my last one for awhile as I step down as Family Life Commisioner in November to prepare for getting my three wonderful Haitian children. We were blessed with a beautiful day, good food, & a good turn out. Thanks to all that came!

Update on the Date...

Several of you have asked me for more information regarding our adoption fundraiser concert that is slated for Friday Sept. 14th at my church. I just heard from my friend & things are "up in the air" right now. The band they want to have will not commit unless there is a backup band due to reasons that may cause a hasty exit by the leader of the band. (Her husband is on a transplant waiting list) They contacted other bands about being back up &/or playing as well & they have said, "Yeah, sure that sounds great" & then they never get back to them which is probably their way of saying, "We really don't want to do it." So please lift this up in prayer. If it's God's will for this happen I know He will provide the resources to make it happen. If you or anyone you know is a member of a Christian music band & would be willing to help out please let me know & I can pass the information on to my friends who are organizing this. Thanks for your prayers & support!

Thank you my friend!

Some of you may have remember from a few posts ago that I had mentioned that I would like to have a glider rocker for Caleb's room. I did not mention that to see if some one would get one for me but instead I was just "talking out loud" about something I wanted & had every intention to go bargain shopping & try to find one.
Enter one of my dear friends...she came up to me the other day & said, "I have a glider rocker chair you can have." I'm like, "Really? That's awesome!" as I'm trying to search my brain how she knew I wanted one...then I remember mentioning it on a blog post.

Thank you my friend for the chair...but I thank you most of all for you being you. I am honored to call you my friend! I would like to have been able to post a picture of her & tell you her name but I won't do that. She would be "horrified" if I did. She is one of the most humble people I have ever met. Not to mention caring, kind, sensitive, gentle & strong (not too many of us can pull that off!), discerning, giving, intelligent, & beautiful on the inside & out. She is a mighty servant of the Lord & I strive to be more like her which is more like Jesus.

I know you read my blog but don't comment & that's ok. I hope I didn't make you blush too much :o) Love ya!

Perserverance...

I've been thinking about it a lot lately for many reasons. God has really been "speaking" to me lately in my devotion times. This devotion was really encouraging to me & I hope it is to you as well. It's from "Quiet Moments With God" for Couples by Honor Books.

"The story is told of a diamond prospector in Venezuela named Rafael Solano. He was one of many impoverished natives & fortune seekers who came to sift through the rocks of a dried up riverbed reputed to have diamonds. No one, however, had any luck for some time in finding any diamonds in the sand & pebbles. One by one, those who came left the site-their dreams shattered, & their bodies drained.

Discouraged & exhausted, Solano had just about decided it was time for him to give up too. He had nothing to show for months of hard work. Then he stooped down one last time & scooped up a handful of pebbles, if only so he could say he had personally inspected every pebble in his claim. From the pebbles in his hand, he pulled out one that seemed a little different. He weighed it in his other hand. It seemed heavy. He measured it & weighed it on a scale. Could it be?

Sure enough, Solano had found a diamond in the rough! New York jewerly dealer Harry Winston paid Solano $200,000 for that stone. When it was cut & polished, it became known as the Liberator, & it is considered the largest & purest unmined diamond in the world.

You may have been plugging away at a project for weeks, even months or years, without seeing much progress. Today may be the day. Don't give up! The Scriptures are filled with examples of men & women who, on the verge of disaster or failure, experienced God's creative work in their lives. Remind yourself of the following things:

*** God's Word is true.
*** God can part the sea.
*** God can heal the incurable.
*** God can provide water from a rock & manna from the heavens.
*** God can conquer your enemies.
*** God can still deliver from the fiery furnace & the lion's den.

Persevere in what He has asked you to do today because your rewards will be more than you can think or imagine!"

"Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world." Revelation 3:10

Keep on keeping on!!! :o)

Focus...

Ever get the feeling that God is trying to tell you something that you have been "discreetly" trying to ignore? Well, that is what has been going on with me & my "focus". I know He has been prodding me lately about it. I guess I haven't responded in the way He wanted so now He's being more direct. Last night I was reading a book & the section was on focusing. Today I read my devotional book & it was about your focus. So I guess I can't ignore it anymore...well, I could but that would not be good. Below is an excerpt of what I was reading last night. It's from the book "Creative Correction" by Lisa Whelchel.

Focusing

Imagine walking down a gold-paved path toward a majestic castle. It's a lovely day-the birds are singing, the breeze is gently blowing, the sky is blue, & the flowers are blooming. The day is so beautiful that you're tempted to leave the path & turn cartwheels in the meadow. But your goal is to visit the castle, so you stick to the path.
Just when you've decided to stay the course, however, a yellow & black butterfly flits right in front of your nose & lands on a flower just ahead of you. You love butterflies, & quietly you sneak toward it. Just as you reach it, the butterfly sails into the air & lands on another flower. Again, you tiptoe up to it, wanting desperately to catch it. This continues for minutes, then hours-and before you know it, you've wandered too far from the path to reach the castle that day. Frustrated, you flop onto the grass. The day is gone, & you have nothing to show for it.
How often do we start chasing "butterflies" when we should be sticking to our path? This story helps illustrate how easily we can get distracted from our goal-and why it's important to stay focused.

This really spoke to me. I use to be "too" focused, where I would continue on with some thing no matter if I didn't sleep, eat, etc. Now I have swung to the other extreme where my focus is easily distracted & distorted. Dear Jesus, please help me to regain my proper focus on life & what you want me to do each day. Please redirect me when I wander off course. Thank you for this beautiful day! Amen!

Hurricane Dean...

Please pray for Haiti...especially the southern part of the country...where the orphanage is...as Hurricane Dean heads it way there. Please pray for everyone's safety & minimal damage of any sort to the country. Please pray for Jamacia as well as it looks like they may get the major brunt of the storm. Thanks in advance for your prayers!

Regrets...

I know we all have regrets from time to time. I know I do. I usually try not to dwell on them but to learn from my mistakes & correct anything that is in my power to correct. Since arriving home from Haiti I have had a lot of regrets. I regret playing less & working more. I regret not spending time to get to know you you, Carsen, Anne, the nannies, & the rest of the orphanage staff. I regret letting a language barrier get in the way of my communication when it didn't have to. I regret not talking to more of the Haitian people & getting to know them. I regret putting my children to bed at their normal time instead of spending more time with them. I regret not having more diapers with me for "massive bouts of diarrhea" :o)
But what I regret most is not letting the light of Jesus shine through me brightly...and for that I am very sorry & ask forgiveness.

Sleepless in Indiana...

I know it's not as catchy as "Sleepless in Seattle" but I don't live in Seattle so I couldn't use that line. I should be asleep. It's past my bedtime which is 9:30ish most nights but I just can't sleep. I can't stop thinking about Haiti & my children. I miss them sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much that it hurts. I want to hold my baby. I want to cuddle with Samara. I want to sing to Shakira.
I desperately want to go back to visit them in October but at the moment do not feel that it's God's plan for me to do so.

Phoebe talks about them like they are already here. She stares at the computer screen for long periods of time looking at the picture of her baby brother on the desktop background. We are in the process of decorating the girls room. It's painted a "Sweet Taffy" pink. Phoebe's bed which will become Shakira's bed has been moved into the room as well as a set of bunk beds which will sleep Samara on the bottom & Phoebe on the top. We still have to get mattresses for the bunks & coordinating bedding for all 3 beds as well as window treatments, a rug, & a curtain for their closet.

I had gotten rid of most of Phoebe's younger clothing that Samara & Shakira could wear because Phoebe is 3-4 sizes bigger than they are except in socks & shoes :o). We have already been blessed by several people donating clothes in the sizes that Samara & Shakira will need...and it's really "nice" clothing. Thank you Jesus!

I didn't have any boy things to start out with but I did hold onto to things that Caleb will be using such as a crib, pack N play, & high chair. I will be repainting his yellow room yellow & decorating it with light blue Baby Snoopy accents. I managed to pick up a changing table for $5 at a yard sale. Something I never had with Phoebe & would like to have with Caleb is a glider rocking chair. Maybe I can find a good deal on one of those in the next few weeks.

I thank God for my beautiful children...all 4 of them!

Toyota Man!

I don't know who brought the Toyota shirt or who put it on Caleb (Brandy??) while I was there but I love this picture! Do you think he has a future at Toyota? :o)
