Working hard...

I will post Day Six today but I wanted to share this devotion from Dr. David Jeremiah first. Most of you that know me well, know that I "love" watching the "Biggest Loser" on Tuesday nights. So much so that you know unless you are dying you should not call me between 7-9pm on Tuesdays. After the last season ended I felt like God spoke to me & said, "You know that when the other 3 come home you will not be able to watch this show faithfully every Tuesday night like you have been for the past few years." I agreed & decided that I would continue watching it until they came home & then I would stop. The Tuesday before I left for Haiti I needed to get to bed early so I chose not to watch the show & go to bed early instead. Then I missed the Tuesday after that because I was in Haiti...and I did not ask Randy to record it for me just as I hadn't the week before. So last night came around & I decided that I had already missed two weeks of it...and I lived :o) so I could skip another week. Now I'm not saying that I will never watch it again. I just won't make it a neccessity in my life...almost to the point of idol worship. So I thought it was interesting when Randy sent me this devotion today & it talked about the "Biggest Loser" show.

On the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser, contestants must work hard every week to drop pounds so they can continue being on the show. They are held accountable by a gigantic scale that reveals their weight in front of millions of Americans. Going into the contest, they know weight loss doesn’t just happen; they have to fight for it by breaking old habits and creating new, healthy ones. Desperate to lose weight and get healthy, they do whatever it takes to achieve their goal.

This should be our mentality as Christians. Becoming like Christ won’t just happen; it takes discipline and the honest pursuit of righteousness. When we accepted Christ as our Savior, we made a commitment to Him; and it is our duty to work hard to put off the “old man which grows corrupt” and “put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22, 24).

When we earnestly do this, we will be well on our way to achieving our goal of godly righteousness and pointing others toward Christ Jesus.
